Frame-ChoiceGlasses are cool again! This is great if you have a child that needs them, maybe not so great if you have a child that doesn’t (but wants them as a fashion accessory).

When choosing children’s frames the main object is to get the child to actually wear the glasses. With this in mind it is always worth considering a child’s point of view when choosing their frames. You as a parent may need to offer subtle guidance if you think certain frames clearly are objectionable, too expensive or inappropriate.

At CKO we offer a huge variety of spectacles for your child, from €25 all the way up to designer brands from Gucci, Lafont and Adidas.

Ask for hypoallergenic materials, such as titanium or plastic frames, if your child has shown sensitivity to certain substances. For example, some people are allergic to frame alloys that contain nickel.

Our highly skilled and experienced team will help guide you and your child to the best fitting and most suitable choices considering the most important aspects of frame fit for children; the bridge fit, temple length and design and eye centration.

The prescription is always the primary consideration in choosing glasses. If the prescription calls for strong lenses that are likely to be thick, it is important to keep the frames as small as possible to reduce the final lens thickness, round lens shapes also help.

Once you and your child (and the Optician) agree on frames that you like, the next consideration is the lenses. We feel that all children’s lenses should be made from polycarbonate, the most impact-resistant material, also used for industrial safety specs and bulletproof glass.

Polycarbonate is thinner and lighter than regular plastic lenses and has built-in protection against potentially damaging ultraviolet (UV) and the lenses are scratch-resistance coated as standard.

It is no more expensive to have these premium performing lenses than regular plastic lenses with UV and scratch-resistant coatings, so with polycarbonate, children get that extra margin of safety and cosmetics at no extra cost!
